Sunday Morning shows on CBS

There are 3 my wife and I make sure not to miss regardless where we are. The first, “Sunday Morning” keeps are a-tuned to human elements of life and nature - doing it to perfection - from week to week. Hats off to weekly choices, they are always winners in our minds AND hearts.

The two that follow are different type of winners for both of us. Being the needed grandparents, we greatly appreciate their quick updates on the time critical (most often political) events dialoging with most relevant people on a topic at hand.

Thank you CBS!

Hi, thanks so much for your feedback! It's always great to hear from our customers, and we're glad you're enjoying CBS. Happy streaming!

Fatal Error - Downloading This App

It's always jarring to have some notification pop up on your screen in the middle of something you're doing – interrupting you, startling you, forcing you out of what you were doing to deal with whatever message has frozen your whole system to make itself known. For users of Apple devices, this jolting horror is an everyday occurrence, usually happening multiple times a day. "Space is low", "new iOS ready for you", whatever. It never is something urgent enough to have to deal with right away, but it has to be dealt with right away because it just interrupted you out of the flow and enjoyment of whatever you were doing. That's the price for using any Apple device.
But just city bank lubbock texas phone number — instead of saying "Space is low", the message says "FATAL ERROR. You have exceeded the maximum number of video streams." Fatal? In the middle of an app purely designed for entertainment ? Because if you're using the CBS app, that's what you're watching it for.
In the middle of am excellent episode of "Bull", right at the most dramatic and touching moments, I was interrupted FOUR TIMES with the "FATAL UPDATE" message, freezing the show and forcing me to back out and simply hit play again. Fatal?? Not so much. Infuriating?? You bet!!
And BTW, I was interrupted while writing this review with "Software Update - New iOS ready", freezing me yet again for maybe the 10th time today.
CBS and Apple. What a winning combination!!!!

What happened to CBS mornings?

After the 2012 reincarnation of the show we switched to CBS after having been long time fans of NBC’s Today show that had slowly evolved into almost pure entertainment. The then new format led by the formidable Nora O’Donnell, was a well balanced broadcast with real journalists speaking in normal voices, and the set was tastefully crafted to look welcoming, and not like the set of a kids’ show. The welcome and long missing regular inclusion of international news, intelligently delivered political analysis, and carefully picked lighter news graduated the program to be among the world leaders of morning news broadcasts. Regrettably, many of the best journalists have slowly been moved to other shows or left, and the show’s creators have chipped away at the format, culminating with the revamp of the show on September 6, 2021, when even the set design is screaming at you. For now, we will take a rest from the show and look elsewhere for meaningful content and a less contrived delivery.

Hi! We’re sorry to hear you’re not totally satisfied with the app at this time. As we are always working to provide the best customer experience possible, we appreciate any specific feedback you can provide to help us improve. Please let us know, so we can pass this on!

How to Cancel CBS All Access Account in 2020

Terms of Use

EFFECTIVE DATE: FEBRUARY 18, 2021

Click to review previous version.

Welcome to the network of interactive services provided by CBS Interactive Inc., its affiliates or its subsidiaries (collectively “CBS Interactive,” “us,” or “we”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of our websites, applications, and other products and services that include an authorized link to these Terms (collectively, the “Services”).

Please review these Terms carefully before using the Services because they affect your rights. By using any of the Services, you accept these Terms and agree to be legally bound by them.

Please consult our Privacy Policy for Information regarding our privacy practices.

Certain Services are provided to you free of charge, while other Services, including Paramount+ and SportsLine, require payment before you can access them. If you choose to subscribe to a paid Service, please also review such Service’s Terms of Use. For example, if you subscribe to Paramount+, please review the Paramount+ Subscription Terms, in addition to all of the other provisions of these Terms.

1. Changes

These Terms are effective as of the Effective Date above. If you have not reviewed the Terms of Use applicable to a Service since the Effective Date, please review these updated Terms carefully before using any Service.

We may change these Terms in the future, so we encourage you to review periodically the Terms of Use applicable to each Service you use. The most current version of the applicable Terms of Use (along with its effective date) will be linked from each of the Services. If you do not agree with any changes to these Terms, your sole remedy is not to use the Services. If you continue to use the Services after we change these Terms, you accept all changes.

2. Disputes; Arbitration

If you have any dispute with or claim against us or any of our affiliates, or if we have a dispute with or claim against you, in either case arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms (a “Claim”), and the Claim is not resolved by calling our Customer Service department at (888) 274-5343, you and we each agree to attempt to resolve such Claim first through informal negotiation. If we do not resolve the Claim through informal negotiation, the Claim shall be resolved through binding arbitration or an individual action in small claims court in the U.S. county (or parish) of your residence or in San Francisco, California. If neither of us chooses to resolve the Claim in small claims court, or the small claims court determines that it lacks jurisdiction to resolve the Claim, the Claim must be resolved solely and exclusively by binding arbitration. Class arbitrations and class actions are not permitted under any circumstances. You and we agree that the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of this provision, and that you and we are each waiving the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action or class arbitration. This Section 2 shall survive termination of these Terms or any subscription that you may have to any of the Services.

Before you or we commence an arbitration or file a small claims court action with respect to a Claim, you must first send to CBS Interactive a written notice of your Claim or we must send a written notice of our Claim to you (“Notice”). Your Notice must (1) be sent by certified mail; (2) be addressed to: CBS Interactive, Attn: Legal Department, 235 Second Street, San Francisco, CA 94105; (3) describe the nature of your Claim; and (4) specify the damages or other relief you seek. If we and you do not then resolve the Claim within 30 days after you receive a Notice of Receipt of the Claim, either you or we may commence an arbitration or file a small claims court action to resolve the Claim.

Any such arbitration shall be administered by the JAMS Mediation, Arbitration and ADR Services (“JAMS”) in accordance with the JAMS Comprehensive Arbitration Rules and Procedures, as modified by the JAMS Consumer Arbitration Minimum Standards (the “JAMS Rules”). Contact information for JAMS, as well as copies of the JAMS Rules and applicable forms, are available at http://www.jamsadr.com. In circumstances in which the JAMS Rules provide for an in-person hearing, such hearing will take place in the U.S. county (or parish) of your residence, or otherwise in San Francisco, California. Payment of the parties’ costs and fees owed to JAMS will be determined by the JAMS Rules and fee schedule, and will be subject to any limitations on the costs and fees owed by you under the JAMS Consumer Arbitration Minimum Standards. You and we agree that, under JAMS Comprehensive Rule 6(e), any arbitration commenced by you or by us shall be consolidated with any other arbitration(s) submitted to JAMS if and only if the arbitrations: (a) involve the same legal claims or causes of action; (b) involve common issues of fact and law; (c) were filed by the same attorney(s) or law firm; and (d) are at a similar procedural stage. However, class or representative arbitrations are not permitted under any circumstances.

3. Additional Terms

Additional terms may apply to your use of certain Services. We will provide these terms to you or post them on the Services to which they apply, and they are incorporated by reference into these Terms. If there is a conflict between these Terms and any additional terms that apply to a particular Service, the additional terms will control.

Sweepstakes, contests, and promotions on the Services may also have additional rules and eligibility requirements, such as certain age or geographic area restrictions. You are responsible for complying with these rules and requirements.

4. Registration and Access Controls

If we request registration information from you to set up a user account, you must provide us with accurate and complete information and must update the information when it changes. You may not access any age-restricted Services unless you are above the required age.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your user account login names and passwords, and must not permit use of your account by anyone other than members of your household. You accept responsibility for all activities, charges, and damages that occur under your account, including use of your account by other members of your household, and unauthorized use of your account. If you have reason to believe that someone is using your account without your permission, you should contact us immediately. We are not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from unauthorized use.

5. Intellectual Property; License

The audio and video materials, photographs, text, graphics, logos, layouts, designs, interfaces, software, data and other content associated with the Services (“Content”) are protected by intellectual property and other laws in the U.S. and in other countries. You must comply with all such laws and applicable copyright, trademark or other legal notices or restrictions. You shall not remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other legal notices marked on the Content. As between you and CBS Interactive, CBS Interactive will retain all right, title, and interest in and to the Services and the Content. No transfer of ownership to any portion of the Content shall be made as a result of any access you are granted. Except as specifically provided below, we reserve all rights to the Services and Content.

You are only permitted to access and view the Content for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms, and may not build a business or other enterprise utilizing any of the Content, whether for profit or not. Except as provided in Section 5(a) or otherwise expressly authorized by us in writing, you may not either directly or through the use of any software, device, internet site, web-based service or other means download, stream capture, store in a database, archive or otherwise copy any part of the Services or Content; upload, sell, rent, lease, lend, broadcast, transmit or otherwise disseminate, distribute, display or perform any part of the Services or Content; license or sublicense any part of the Services or Content; or in any way exploit any part of the Services or Content. In addition, except as provided in Section 5(a) or otherwise expressly authorized by us in writing, you are strictly prohibited from modifying Content; creating, distributing or advertising an index of any significant portion of the Content; or otherwise creating derivative works or materials that otherwise are derived from or based in any way on the Content, including mash-ups and similar videos, montages, translations, desktop themes, fonts, icons, wallpaper, greeting cards, and merchandise. This prohibition from creating derivative works is applicable even if you intend to give away the derivative material free of charge.

Without limiting the foregoing, you may not modify, interfere with, enhance, remove, or otherwise alter in any way any portion of the CBS Interactive video player (the “Video Player”); any of the Video Player’s underlying technology; or any digital rights management mechanism, device, or other content protection or access control measure incorporated into the Video Player. This restriction includes, without limitation, disabling, modifying, reverse engineering, interfering with or otherwise circumventing the Video Player in any manner that enables users to view Content without: (i) visibly displaying both the Video Player and all surrounding elements (including the graphical user interface, any advertising, copyright notices, and trademarks) of the webpage where the Video Player is located; and (ii) having full access to all functionality of the Video Player, including, without limitation, all video quality and display functionality and all interactive, elective or click-through advertising functionality.

a. Viral Distribution

We may expressly authorize you to redistribute certain Content on a personal, non-commercial basis. We will identify the Content that you are authorized to redistribute and describe ways you may redistribute it (such as via email, social media posts, blogs, or embedded players, or by producing Mash-Ups). We may revoke this authorization at any time. If you redistribute such Content, you must be able to edit or delete such publicly posted Content and you must edit or delete it promptly upon our request. When expressly authorized by us in writing, you may embed videos using the Video Player, provided you do not embed the Video Player on any website or other location that (i) contains or hosts content that is inappropriate, profane, vulgar, offensive, false, disparaging, defamatory, obscene, illegal, infringing, threatening, sexually explicit, racist, that promotes violence, racial hatred, or terrorism, or that we deem, in our sole discretion, to be otherwise objectionable or (ii) links to infringing or unauthorized content, or any content described in (i). You may not embed the Video Player into any hardware or software application, even for non-commercial purposes. As determined by us in our sole discretion, we reserve the right to prevent embedding to any website or other location that we find inappropriate or otherwise objectionable as determined by us in our sole discretion.

Some Services may include “Mash-Up Tools” that allow you to manipulate Content or combine User Submissions (as defined in Section 6) with Content to create “Mash-Ups.” The following terms apply to your use of Mash-Up Tools, except as specifically provided in other terms accompanying the Mash-Up Tools:

  • You may only use designated Content with the Mash-Up Tools, and we may revoke permission to use the designated Content at any time.
  • You may manipulate or combine the designated Content using the Mash-Up Tools only as authorized and only for personal, non-commercial purposes.
  • As between you and us, we own all compilation rights in the Mash-Ups and may make perpetual and unrestricted use of the Mash-Ups, and you will only retain whatever prior rights you had in your User Submissions.
  • With our permission, other users of the Services may make subsequent Mash-Ups using your Mash-Ups.
  • You must include any required or existing trademark, copyright or other legal notices in the Mash-Ups and you must comply with any other usage or attribution guidelines we provide.
  • If we expressly allow you to do so, you may distribute Mash-Ups under the Viral Distribution guidelines above in Section 4(a) of these Terms.

b. Commercial Licenses

You must obtain our written permission for commercial use of the Content or the Services. If you wish to license Content from the Services, please contact us.

c. Dated Materials

Content offered through the Services or in links from the Services is dated as of the date originally issued or indicated on the Content and may no longer be accurate. We assume no obligation to update such Content.

6. Legal Complaints

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe that Content on the Services infringes your copyright, please follow our procedures for making a copyright infringement claim. If you have a legal complaint other than a copyright claim, please follow our procedure for making other legal complaints.

7. User Submissions

Some of the Services may allow you to submit or transmit audio, video, text, or other materials, including so-called “user generated content” and “feedback” (collectively, “User Submissions”) to or through the Services. When you provide User Submissions, you grant to CBS Interactive and its affiliates and partners a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, fully sublicenseable license to use, reproduce, archive, edit, translate, create derivative works of, make available, distribute, sell, display, perform, transmit, broadcast and in any other way exploit those User Submissions, and any names, voices, likenesses and other identifying information of persons that is part of those User Submissions, in any form, media, software, or technology of any kind now known or developed in the future, including, without limitation, for developing, manufacturing, and marketing products. You hereby waive any moral rights you may have in your User Submissions.

We respect your ownership of User Submissions. If you owned a User Submission before providing it to us, you will continue owning it after providing it to us, subject to any rights granted in these Terms and any access granted to others. Please note that if you delete a User Submission from the Services:

The User Submission may still exist in our backup copies, which are not publicly available.

If your User Submission was shared with third parties, those third parties may have retained copies of your User Submissions, and neither we nor our affiliates have any responsibility for any uses of your User Submission that they might make.

We retain the license specified above. Thus, for example, if we or one of our sublicensees obtained your user Submission for use in creating a derivative work before you deleted it, we or our sublicensee would remain free to complete the creation of that derivative work and thereafter exploit that derivative work for all purposes and at all times.

We may refuse or remove a User Submission without notice to you. However, we have no obligation to monitor User Submissions, and you agree that neither we nor our affiliates will be liable for User Submissions or any loss or damage resulting from User Submissions.

We do not guarantee that User Submissions will be private, even if the User Submission is in a password-protected area. Accordingly, you should not provide User Submissions that you want protected from others.

You bear all responsibility for your User Submissions. You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to grant to CBS Interactive the license above and that your User Submissions do not violate Section 11.

We do not necessarily endorse or evaluate third party content and websites, and we do not assume responsibility for third parties’ actions or omissions. In order to receive Mobile Features, your wireless provider may require you to subscribe to additional services, which may require additional fees. These fees are not charged by us, and you should contact your wireless provider before you sign up for Mobile Features to determine what fees, if any, will be charged. In addition, you agree that we may arrange for Mobile Features billing through your wireless provider and that your wireless provider may invoice you for the applicable fees or deduct them from your pre-paid balance.

You may not transfer or copy any Content from the wireless device on which you originally received Content to any other device, including, without limitation, any computer or another wireless device.

To cancel a Mobile Feature that involves a subscription fee, you must follow the instructions included in the terms and conditions applicable to that Mobile Feature; otherwise, you will continue to incur subscription charges. If you stop a subscription-based Mobile Feature in the middle of a billing cycle, you will not receive a refund for that billing cycle.

Without limiting any other provision in these Terms, you agree not to do the following, or assist others to do the following:

  • Access the Services using any interface other than ours.
  • Maintain any link to the Services that we ask you to remove, in our sole discretion.

Paramount+ is a subscription video on-demandover-the-topstreaming service owned and operated by ViacomCBS Streaming, a division of ViacomCBS.[1] It offers original and library content from the CBS Entertainment Group and ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks broadcast properties, as well as the Paramount Pictures library. Originally launched as CBS All Access on October 28, 2014 (10 All Access in Australia), the service was expanded and rebranded as Paramount+ on March 4, 2021, following the 2019 re-merger of CBS and Viacom.

Paramount+ would also expand to international markets, starting with Latin America and the already existing Canadian service on the day of the service's rebranding, followed by Nordic countries on March 25 and Australia on August 11. Content from ViacomCBS' free-to-air Network 10 is also available on the Australian version of the service.[2][3][4]

History[edit]

Beginnings as CBS All Access[edit]

CBS All Access was launched on October 28, 2014, priced at US$5.99 per month with advertising and $9.99 per month without.[5][6][7][8] Announced on October 16, 2014, as the first over-the-top (OTT) offering by an American broadcast television network, the service initially encompassed the network's existing streaming portal at CBS.com and its mobile app for smartphones and tablet computers; CBS All Access became available on Roku on April 7, 2015, and on Chromecast on May 14, 2015.[9][10] In addition to providing full-length episodes of past and present of CBS programs, the service allows live programming streams of local CBS affiliates in 194 markets reaching 92% of the United States (including stations owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, Hearst Television, Tegna Media, Nexstar Media Group, Meredith Corporation, Griffin Communications, Gray Television, Weigel Broadcasting and Cox Media Group and the launch group of CBS Television Stations[11]), including SEC sports and the NFL; however due to the absence of streaming rights, a few sports events are not streamed on the service (mainly involving PGA Tour events, some locally programmed NFL preseason games, and select brokered shows through CBS Sports Spectacular), along with limited syndicated and paid programming where only a local broadcast license to carry the program is allowed and web airing rights are retained by the syndicator or infomercial producer.[12][13][14][15][16] By the very nature of its being live, streaming of a local affiliate does include all advertising, even with the commercial-free plan.

On December 1, 2016, CBS announced an agreement with the NFL to allow clearance of regional NFL games carried by CBS on CBS All Access from Week 13 of the 2016 NFL season on. At the time, the games were blacked out on non–Verizon Wireless mobile devices due to that provider's exclusivity agreement as part of their "official wireless provider" sponsorship of the league.[17] In the 2018 NFL season, a new agreement with Verizon ending that exclusivity began to allow CBS All Access to stream games to all mobile devices; Super Bowl games run on CBS All Access without the need for any authentication.

As of February 2017,[update] the service had nearly 1.5 million subscribers.[18] In August of the same year, CBS unveiled plans to expand CBS All Access to markets outside the United States. Canada was announced as the first international market to receive the service.[19] Plans to launch in Australia quickly followed, resulting from CBS's purchase of free-to-air broadcaster Network 10.[20]

In September 2017, Star Trek: Discovery debuted on streaming on CBS, and they also recorded a record number of sign-ups after this.[21] The records were the greatest number of single day, week, and monthly sign-up records since the streaming network's inception.[21] They reported the previous single-day record was held by the 2017 Grammy award ceremony coverage.[21] CBS was noted as harnessing the Star Trek fanbase which was willing to get the service just to see the series.[22]

Buoyed by Star Trek: Discovery, CBS All Access reached over 2 million subscribers by early 2018. The 60th Annual Grammy Awards also provided a boost to sign-ups, marking the second largest day for new subscriptions after the Discovery premiere.[23] In April 2018, CBS All Access was made available outside the United States for the first time when it was launched in Canada.[24]

The service launched in Australia in December 2018 as 10 All Access. It operates alongside 10's free catch up and live streaming service 10 Play and contains a mixture of Network 10 and CBS programming. CBS shows are made available on All Access prior to being broadcast on 10's channels. 10 All Access is commercial-free and, unlike CBS All Access, has only one pricing tier.[25][26]

In January 2019, CBS reported its largest increase in subscribers over a weekend—a 72% increase over the premiere of Discovery, crediting the premiere of season 2 of the series and that week's AFC Championship Game (which also brought the service its largest streaming audience for a football game). Super Bowl LIII would surpass this record only a few weeks later, with CBS reporting an 84% increase in new subscribers.[27][28]

Re-merger of CBS and Viacom[edit]

On November 25, 2019, as part of the re-merger between CBS Corporation and Viacom, CBS All Access announced the inclusion of programming from Nickelodeon, as part of the wider launch of children's programming on the service, with other partners including Boat Rocker Studios and WildBrain.[29][30]

In January 2020, CBS All Access became available on the Xfinity Flex platform, followed by the X1 platform in December.[31][32]

On February 6, 2020, CNBC reported that ViacomCBS was in discussions to launch a larger premium streaming offering, combining CBS All Access with content from Paramount Pictures, the Domestic Media Networks division, and Pluto TV. The service would include an ad-free tier, and a premium tier that includes Showtime's streaming service. The company would maintain its existing streaming platforms, while marketing the new service to users of these other services.[33][34] ViacomCBS partially outlined these plans in a corporate earnings call on February 20, 2020, stating that the expanded All Access service would take a "house of brands" approach to content and serve as a mid-tier offering complementing Pluto TV (which would remain a free service) and the Showtime OTT service by "adding a broad pay offering, built on [All Access's] foundation." The expanded service will include content from MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, and Smithsonian Channel, as well as a library of 30,000 television series episodes and up to 1,000 film titles from Paramount's film and television divisions and CBS Media Ventures, and expanded live news and sports offerings. No pricing plan or firm dates for content expansion were disclosed, though a "soft [re]launch" will occur later in 2020. ViacomCBS will also continue to license its TV and film content to competing streaming platforms.[35][36]

On May 7, 2020, CBS All Access began adding more films to the service, starting with more than 100 from Paramount Pictures, and ViacomCBS announced that CBS All Access will expand internationally within twelve months.[37] On July 30, 2020, CBS All Access added several shows from ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks, introduced a new user interface with "hubs" for different brands, and revealed that Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years (previously planned to air on Nickelodeon) would debut on the service in 2021.[38] With the expansion, it was also announced that the service would rebrand in early-2021 to separate itself from CBS's platforms, and that there were plans to add multiple user profiles and parental controls later in 2020.[39]

Relaunch as Paramount+[edit]

On September 15, 2020, it was announced that CBS All Access would rebrand as Paramount+ in 2021, and that it planned to perform more international expansion under the new name. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish stated Paramount was "an iconic and storied brand beloved by consumers all over the world, and it is synonymous with quality, integrity and world-class storytelling". Several new series were also announced for the service, including true crime series The Real Criminal Minds, MTV's Behind the Music – The Top 40, a revival of the BET series The Game, Taylor Sheridan's Lioness, and The Offer — a drama based on Albert S. Ruddy's experiences filming The Godfather.[40]

On January 19, 2021, it was announced that Paramount+ would launch on March 4, with information being released on February 24 during an investor event.[41] The company announced that no updates will be provided for apps on second or third generation Apple TV once the service relaunches.[42] ViacomCBS announced during their investor event on February 24 that Paramount+ would premiere new 2021 theatrical releases from Paramount Pictures (such as A Quiet Place Part II, and Top Gun: Maverick) 45 days after their theatrical release, PAW Patrol: The Movie and Clifford the Big Red Dog received simultaneous theatrical and Paramount+ releases on August 20[43] and November 10, 2021[44] respectively. while other future theatrical releases from Paramount would premiere on the service either after their theatrical run or after their run on Epix (which reached a new deal with ViacomCBS that same day to provide content for Paramount+, allowing recent releases from Paramount to be available on the service among other titles).[45]

The relaunch occurred as announced on March 4, 2021, with additional streaming content being launched and further rebranding efforts taking place at that time.[46]

Subscribers[edit]

In 2021, the company ViacomCBS issued a press release that revealed the combined number of subscribers to both CBS All Access and Showtime (another streaming product).[52] That press release revealed that the two streaming services had a combined 19.2 million US subscribers, though the release did not provide individual numbers for either service.[52] In May 2021, ViacomCBS reported to have gained 6 million subscribers during the first quarter of 2021.[53] This brought the total number of global subscribers for ViacomCBS streaming platforms (Paramount+, Showtime, BET+) to 36 million. Out of the 36 million subscribers, a majority of these subscribers are subscribed to Paramount+; however, the exact number of subscribers has not been released.

Programming[edit]

Original programming[edit]

On November 2, 2015, it was announced that the first CBS All Access original series would be a new Star Trek series in 2017, which is set in the original Star Trek universe.[54] The first season of Star Trek: Discovery consisted of 15 episodes.

On May 18, 2016, it was announced that The Good Wife would get a spin-off featuring Christine Baranski's character Diane Lockhart. The series, titled The Good Fight, launched with a CBS broadcast premiere on February 19, 2017, with the remaining nine episodes exclusive to CBS All Access.[55] The series became the first original drama on the platform when the Star Trek series premiere was delayed until the fall of 2017.[56]

On August 2, 2016, the announcement was made that an online version of Big Brother would air on CBS All Access in the fall of 2016. The announcement marked the first CBS television series set to air exclusively on the platform. It is also expected to be the first reality game show set to air exclusively on any streaming platform.[57] On August 10, 2016, CBS announced that Julie Chen Moonves would continue to serve as host, and then revealed the season to be called Big Brother: Over the Top.

In February 2019, CBS All Access announced they were planning a show based on the Star Trek: The Next Generation character Captain Jean-Luc Picard, to air before the end of the year. The series was later announced as Star Trek: Picard, and premiered on January 23, 2020.[58][59] Other original shows in development included a project with Michelle Yeoh, as well as the continuation of existing shows such as Star Trek: Discovery, The Good Fight, and The Twilight Zone.

The animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered its first episode on August 6, 2020, on CBS All Access in the United States.[60][61][62]

As part of CBS All Access's expansion, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run[63] and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years debuted when the service rebranded on March 4, 2021. Sponge on the Run was also made available to rent on demand on the same day.[64]

The Halo television series, based on the Xbox video game franchise, will be a Paramount+ exclusive premiering in the first quarter of 2022 as announced during a ViacomCBS streaming event on February 25, 2021.[65] ViacomCBS also announced that Paramount+ would house new content based on several classic properties, including Flashdance, Frasier, iCarly, Beavis and Butt-Head, Reno 911! (in the latter case, a second new home, as the show had previously restarted on the short-lived Quibi service), and more.[66][67][68]

In May 2021, CBS announced that Evil and SEAL Team would move from CBS to Paramount+ beginning with their second and fifth seasons respectively.[69]

In August 2021, ViacomCBS extended the contract with South Park creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, not just to extend the series until Season 30 by 2027, but also to produce 14 new films exclusively for Paramount+. Two of the films will be released every year, starting with the first two later in the year.[70][71]

Sports programming[edit]

Paramount+ also carries sports programming, in conjunction with CBS Sports. In November 2019, CBS announced that it had acquired streaming rights in the United States to the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in European soccer, replacing Turner Sports. All matches will stream on the service, with selected matches on the broadcast network and CBS Sports Network.[72] The contract was initially to begin in the 2021–22 season and last through 2023–24. However, during a suspension of the 2019–20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, existing rightsholder Turner Sports opted out of its contract, and CBS took over the rights early for its remaining seasons.[73]

The service has picked up other domestic and international soccer events as well, including the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL),[74]CONCACAF Nations League, Women's Nations League, and 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship,[75] the Argentine Primera División, Brazilian Série A,[76] and Italy's Serie A.[77] As part of the NFL's rights renewal with CBS, Paramount+ gains expanded rights to stream games on both its premium and ad-supported tiers between 2021 and 2033.[78]

Syndicated and archived programming[edit]

The most recent episodes of CBS's shows are usually made available on CBS.com and Paramount+ the day after their original broadcast.

Paramount+ provides complete back catalogs of most of its current series, including full-season "stacking rights" (with the exception of certain series, such as The Big Bang Theory, which CBS held only "last five" episode rights during its original run, as Warner Bros. retains all other rights as the show's distributor), as well as a wide selection of episodes of classic series from the CBS Media Ventures program library – including shows previously owned by the original Paramount Television made for both CBS and other networks prior to CBS's acquisition of its program library through the CBS-Viacom split (including the complete episode catalog of shows like Star Trek, Cheers, MacGyver, Twin Peaks and CSI: Miami), along with the pre-1973 NBC and ABC libraries to subscribers of the service. Paramount+ also carries behind-the-scenes features from CBS programs and special events, and (beginning with the 17th season in June 2015) live feeds and special content from the reality series Big Brother.[6]

In mid-April 2017, a limited library of films, made up of content from Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Sony Pictures, The Samuel Goldwyn Company and CBS Films, was made available on the service. This includes several titles in the Star Trek film series. On May 7, 2020, CBS All Access added more than 100 films from Paramount Pictures;[79] more films were added in the coming months.

In August 2019, CBS All Access expanded into children's broadcasting by acquiring the U.S. broadcast rights to Danger Mouse (1981) (as well as the reboot of the series), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and several other series from WildBrain including Inspector Gadget (and Inspector Gadget's Field Trip), Bob the Builder (original and reboot), Polly Pocket and others.[80] On July 30, 2020, CBS All Access added 56 shows from ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks.[39]

Launch[edit]

This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. (June 2021)

CBS All Access was first launched in the United States on October 28, 2014. The service would receive its first International expansion on April 23, 2018, when CBS All Access expanded to Canada. Australia received its own version of the service, named 10 All Access, on December 4, 2018.

In August 2020, ViacomCBS announced plans to launch an expanded international streaming service using the CBS All Access technical architecture, but under the new Paramount+ name (revealed in September) in 2021; the Paramount+ name would also be applied to the American replacement to CBS All Access. The service features original programming from CBS All Access as well as Showtime, plus additional programming including Paramount Pictures films which may vary by market. The service would initially launch in the Nordics and Latin America, replacing an existing service of the same name, with additional markets to follow.[81] In Australia, while the relaunched service will premiere all new Showtime original programs going forward, currently-airing series will remain on Stan until their conclusion under an existing deal.[82]

The Paramount+ brand itself was originated as a subscription video on demand film service, first launching in the Nordics in 2017,[83] and then in Hungary,[84]Latin America,[85] and Russia in the following three years.[86] The current iteration of Paramount+ in the Nordics and Latin America was preceded by this service.

Paramount+ is currently available in Australia, Canada, Latin America, Middle East (as a pay TV channel), Nordics, and United States. Additionally, the Paramount+ SVOD service is still active in Poland (as Paramount Play), Hungary, and Russia (as Okko Paramount+), though the current streaming service is unavailable in said regions. Due to program rights and existing content deals, several programs are not available on local versions, or have delayed availability for new episodes.[87] For example, Star Trek: Discovery and other shows from the franchise are licensed to Bell Media in Canada for their CTV Sci-Fi (in English) and Z (in French) channels and streaming service Crave.[88][87] Another example, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, iCarly, and all Paramount+ original kids and family programming are licensed to Corus Entertainment for their YTV and Treehouse networks in 2021, in-part due to pre-existing agreements between Corus and ViacomCBS.[89] The only exception is Star Trek: Prodigy which will air in Canada on CTV Sci-Fi Channel.[90]

A localized version of Paramount+ operates in the Middle East as a premium offering on pay-TV provider OSN, replacing the now-defunct Paramount Channel. It features content from the aforementioned channel, as well as Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV.[91]

In August 2021, Comcast announced an agreement with ViacomCBS to launch SkyShowtime, a joint streaming service combining programming from ViacomCBS, Sky, and NBCUniversal libraries as well as original programming from Peacock and Paramount+.[92][93] The service is expected to be available in 20 smaller European territories, including four Nordic countries along with Hungary and Poland where it will replace Paramount+, instead of Paramount+ and Peacock operating separately in those markets.[94]

As reported by Deadline Hollywood that following the announcements that their original series Star Trek: Discovery was pulled from Netflix worldwide outside US and Canada (which in fact Bell Media retained the license for the entire Star Trek libraries), they're bringing Discovery back to Paramount+ as they unveiled their 2022 global rollout,[95] starting with their launch in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria via Sky Group.[96]

CBS All Access Is Now Paramount Plus, but What Does That Mean for Subscribers?

When it launched, CBS All Access was one of the first streaming services to come from a broadcast network. In the years since, it has existed on the fringe of the streaming wars but maintained a loyal following thanks to its slate of original and exclusive programming. Now, CBS All Access is transforming into Paramount Plus, a more full-fledged streaming service with expanded offerings.

If you have CBS All Access, will you get Paramount Plus?

Users who are already subscribed to CBS All Access shouldn't experience any change in their service. Paramount Plus launched on March 4, and users who are subscribed to CBS All Access should be able to log in to Paramount Plus with their current credentials. This is true regardless of what price tier you are currently subscribed to on CBS All Access.

Article continues below advertisement

If you subscribed to CBS All Access at $5.99 a month, you will have Paramount Plus with ads. If you subscribed at $9.99 per month, you will have access to Paramount Plus with no ads.

Paramount Plus should have all of the offerings that were available on CBS All Access, plus additional things like live TV, a broader selection of movies, and an expanded catalog of TV shows.

Is CBS All Access going away?

With the introduction of Paramount Plus, CBS All Access will cease to exist. In reality, though, CBS All Access is transforming and expanding into Paramount Plus. Anything that subscribers watched on CBS All Access will also be available on Paramount Plus. Although the name and app may be changing, CBS All Access users shouldn't feel like the service is disappearing.

New subscribers will get a month long free trial.

Users who sign up for Paramount Plus during the month of March will get a month-long free trial on the platform. After March, the trial period will shorten to a single week. After the free trial, the service will cost $10 per month for its ad-free service, or $6 per month for the ad-supported version. In June, the service will introduce a $5 per month base price that is ad-supported but doesn't feature access to your local CBS channel stream.

Paramount Plus is debuting with a bevy of content.

Paramount Plus is set to have more than 30,000 episodes of TV when it debuts, as well as more than 2,500 movies. The streamer will also debut 36 original series this year, including a revival of Frasier, a CG reboot of the animated series Rugrats, and there's a new studio devoted to developing more animated content inside the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The service will also serve as the streamer for all of Paramount's theatrical movie releases after they play in theaters for 45 days. In the immediate future, that means that movies like A Quiet Place: Part II, Mission Impossible 7, and others will hit the service in the coming months.

Paramount Plus is the latest service in a long line of new streaming services. Whether it will ultimately be able to compete with the many other titles that have launched in recent years remains to be seen.

But just imagine — instead of saying "Space is low", the message says "FATAL ERROR.
