Is Your Amazon Fire Stick Remote Not Working? Here are the Causes & Reasons

Does it really annoy you when you’re watching your favorite movie on your FireStick device and your Remote stops working mid-way? Well, if that’s the case with you then here is an article that will help you resolve your problem in a jiffy. We all get tired of pressing that pause button endlessly and yet it breaks our heart when nothing really happens. Whether it’s a volume button or a home button or some other navigation button, if it isn’t working on our remote device, it is more or less killing the whole fun.

In case, if you’re planning to just unplug the power supply in hopes of rebooting the device to fix the problem, just hold on for a second. Even if it reboots, there is a 50% chance the remote may not work.

And if it doesn’t, the best way to make sure that it starts working again is to find the cause behind it and find a particular way to fix that problem.

Reasons Why Amazon Fire Stick Remote May Have Stopped Working

There are plenty of reasons why your Amazon Fire Stick remote can stop working.

  • Batteries May Not Be Working
  • Remote is Not Properly Paired
  • Remote Button May Not be Working
  • Remote isn’t Compatible with Device
  • Remote Must be Damaged

Reason # 1: Batteries May Not Be Working

Amazon Fire Stick remotes are one power-hungry devices which readily consume batteries. One of the reasons why your Fire Stick remote has stopped working can be drained out batteries. If a remote isn’t working, there is a major possibility that the batteries on the remote are dried up and need changing.

Why do FireStick remotes consume so much battery? Now, this is still a myth that still needs exploring. Maybe, it is because FireStick remotes connect with the Amazon Alexa and works through voice command technology. Or maybe, it is just designed in such a way that it consumes high power.

One way or the other, the only solution to this problem is to purchase some good quality alkaline batteries. Good quality alkaline batteries ensure that your Amazon Fire Stick remote run smoothly for longer hours and does not encounter any working problem any time soon. Buy a reputed brand like Duracell.

Now, when you purchase a battery make sure that you do not get yourself the rechargeable ones. It’s because rechargeable batteries are short-lived and if not manufactured correctly, you will see white substance deposit around the connectors. It shows that your rechargeable battery is badly damaged.

Hence, always sought out for a one-time use batteries if it’s an alkaline one & always keep a spare.

Reason # 2: Remote is Not Properly Paired

Normally, Fire Stick remotes come pre-configured with your Fire Stick device. However, just in case, if it is not, then you will have to pair the Fire Stick Remote separately. One of the reasons why your Fire Stick Remote does not function properly is because maybe it is not appropriately paired with the device. Therefore, you can follow these simple steps to ensure that your device is properly paired:

  1. Plug in FireStick into HDMI port of your TV.
  2. Power on both FireStick and your TV.
  3. When FireStick boots up, hold down the ‘Home’ button on the remote for at least 10 seconds.
  4. This will pair the Amazon FireStick remote and it must start working.

Still doesn’t work fine? Hold down the home button for at least 10-20 seconds. In most cases, it will get the jobs done. In this way, you won’t have to repeat this process constantly over and over again.

Do you know that Amazon Fire Stick can be connected up to 7 Bluetooth devices at a similar instance? Some times, your remote can fail to perform just because it is connected to an unknown Bluetooth device. Hence, you should check and at least disconnect one of them to make the device work for you.

To disconnect one of the devices from Bluetooth, follow these steps carefully.

  1. Select Settings from the FireStick home screen. Settings option is on the top menu bar
  2. Open Controllers & Bluetooth Devices on the next screen
  3. You will see the list of all the connected devices. Just choose the device you wish to unpair and follow the onscreen instructions.

Sometimes, the reconnection process can take up a few tries. It may not work the first time, so you may have to try the second and third time. Disconnect more devices until your remote gets connected.

Reason # 3: Remote Button May Not be Working

If a button does not work on your Fire Stick remote, it’s usually because the remote is not properly paired with your Fire Stick device. If it isn’t paired, try pairing your device by holding down the Home.

Still doesn’t work? Time to reset your remote so it finally does work.

To reset your remote, follow these essential steps:

  1. Disconnect your FireStick from the power source (either unplug the adapter from the power outlet or from the FireStick device)
  2. Now hold down the following buttons (all of them together) for at least 20 seconds:

– Back button

– Menu button

– Left part of the navigation ring

  1. Remove the batteries from the back of the remote
  2. Power your Fire Stick device and wait for the home screen to appear
  3. Now, put the batteries back inside the Fire Stick remote
  4. Wait at least for a couple of minutes
  5. Your Fire Stick remote may have already got paired. If not, then hold down the Home button for at least 10-20 seconds.

Remember: This method will not reset the remote to factory settings. It will only reset your remote so it starts working on your current device.

Reason # 4: Remote isn’t Compatible with Device

If you have purchased the remote from somewhere outside, then there’s a strong chance it might not work with your current Fire Stick device. Reason is there are several decent in-house third-party remotes which can work greatly with the FireStick & Fire TV devices without seeing any such difficulty.

Besides, Amazon Fire Stick is a versatile device which can use other third-party game controller as remotes. If there is an out-house remote you are using and is compatible with Amazon products, it will connect. But for how long is a question that I can’t ascertain. Some are designed to work with the Fire TV others aren’t. There are cheap replicas of the original remote which might have connectivity issues.

Hence, before you make a purchase from a third-party supplier, do verify the authenticity of the seller.

Reason # 5: Remote Must be Damaged

Have you tried resetting your remote? Have you changed the batteries? If the remote is still not working, then there is a chance that the remote is damaged. It’s time to consider buying a new one.

If you want to replace your current remote, you can order a replacement remote which will only cost you $10. Search them up on Amazon and you will easily find a good replacement remote to use.

Besides, there are plenty of other options. You can find good remote with good customizability options. There’s one which has a dedicated button for running Netflix and other apps as well.

Remember: Custom remotes are not from Amazon directly. These remotes can be third-party remotes sold by individual merchants. So before you purchase, check out the ratings of the seller. Anything rated 4+ is a great merchant to make a purchase.

What is the Best Way to Resolve this Problem?

This could happen with any of us who own a Fire Stick device and a remote. If that’s the case, then I think I have some powerful generic solutions for you. Hopefully, it can help you out once and for all.

Minimize the distance between the Amazon Fire Stick remote and the Fire Stick device. The minimum distance between you and the device should be at least 10 ft. You can increase or decrease by 2 ft. distance between yourself and the device based on your living room environment. If you have a large room or a big hall, then I suggest that you find a position which will allow you to sit in direct range.

One thing that you need to understand about the FireStick remote is that this device connects via Bluetooth. It does not require any infrared waves like other television remotes. It means that it is not necessary that you should be in the line of sight of the device. You can sit just about in any direction to use it. However, it is not advised that you keep the device in a cabinet or someplace which can obstruct the signals. It should be out in the open in order to give you a reception free of problems.

Make sure that you do not keep too many electrical devices near the FireStick. A great number of electronic devices will create deep hindrances in the connectivity of the FireStick device. As a result, electronic waves will create hindrance and interference within the signal and disturb the connectivity.

Do You Know About the FireStick Remote App?

If you have tried all the possible solutions suggested above and still you are unable to make the Amazon Fire TV remote work? How about if I tell you that you can download an app to help you.

Even if your remote is failing to work, you can still access your FireStick device without one. And, in order to do so, the only thing which you will ever need is an Amazon Fire TV Remote App.

With the app, you can easily transform your smartphone into a full-fledged remote device. This device allows you to control your FireStick device using your smartphone using an app on Android/iOS.

You can download the app easily from the play store or Apple store. If you’ve lost your remote and you don’t want to miss out on your favorite TV shows, then simply download the app and use it with your FireStick device. Just make sure when you do so, your device stays connected with a Wi-Fi network.

Attention: Important Notice for Amazon Fire Stick Users

Do not forget that your IP is visible to everyone. ISPs and governments are constantly monitoring their respective users online. They are going through every activity which you perform over the Internet.

In case, if you’re found streaming any data which is part of copyrighted content on your Fire Stick TV, you can automatically fall into a trap. You will be identified by them and will be sanctioned equally.

Currently, the IP which you are using to access the Internet is a public IP.

However, when you are able to recommend any good FireStick VPN, then hide your identity so that your movie viewing experience gets a whole lot better and it doesn’t take any sort of the wrong turn.

You can use a VPN service like One VPN or Pure VPN which can completely mask your identity. Once, you’re hidden then I am sure nobody can detect your IP. You may experience slow speed but it is usually because your service is getting rerouted from the US or any other data center of your choice.

In the End

Most of the time, it’s just the batteries. So, don’t you worry if it isn’t working fine, all you have to do is change the batteries? The remote simply drains out the battery much quicker than you can expect.

Henceforth, it is best if you always keep a spare with you. Just to be safe, do download the app on your mobile phone. So, if you can’t find the remote, you can always have the option to use the phone.

In this article, I have discussed every single possibility of how FireStick Remote can stop working. Did you enjoy reading the article? Was it good and informative? Do let us know in the comments below.

    4. Tap the keyboard icon in the upper left corner to access the keyboard.

Voice controls are only available in certain countries. If you live in an area where Amazon doesn't allow voice controls, downloading this app will not enable voice controls.

    5. Tap and hold the microphone, then say what you're looking for, or say the name of an app you want your Fire TV to open.

    6. Tap the Apps & Games icon, located between the microphone and keyboard icons, to launch the Apps & Games shortcut menu.

So, you have a remote for your TV, a remote for your Fire Stick, a remote for your cable box, and a remote for your DVD player. Maybe you’ve been able to get your cable remote to work your TV and possibly your DVD player, which saves a lot of hassle, but it certainly won’t accommodate your Firestick.

I knew there had to be other remotes that could operate everything, but I hadn’t seen them advertise. So, like you, I was looking for universal remotes work with Firestick, and more importantly, which is the best. After a little research, I compiled this list and found that the Harmony remotes by Logitech work great with Firestick, as well as up to 14 other devices in your home.

This is the cream of the crop remote. You can control just about any smart home device through wifi, Bluetooth or IR and even integrate Alexa so that you can ask her to operate anything that is connected to your Harmony. You can also control your lights, thermostat ceiling fan, etc.

There are a few other remotes that can get the job done though if you’re looking for something a little cheaper with less capability.

What universal remotes work with firestick:

    1. The Logitech Harmony Smart Control – Fully functional Universal Remote
    2. The SofaBaton F2 – Univeral Remote Attachment
    3. The Sideclick – Univeral Remote Attachment
    4. The Inteset Remote with IReTV Reciever and Y Cable
    5. The Cetus Play – Univeral Remote App

Now, let’s dive down into each one of these and see which one is right for you. I’ll also tell you which option I think is best for a universal remote that works with Firestick.

    Logitech Harmony Smart Control

Logitech Harmony Elite Remote Control, Hub and App

The Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remotes are perfect for controlling smart devices, and especially your Fire Stick. They’re compatible with Apple iPhone, iPod touch, iPod or Android device (apps). They’re also able to control up to 15 components, depending on the model.

This remote stood out to me for a lot of reasons. One is the fact that it’s compatible with more than 5,000 brands and 225,000 devices.

Not only does it control your TV, DVD player, Firestick and Cable box, but it can also control most gaming consoles, your ecobee thermostat, and supposedly even your computer.

Secondly, it can sync with both Google Home and Alexa Echo devices. So for instance, you can ask Alexa to turn on your TV, switch to Netflix, Play, Pause, etc.

Thirdly, it communicates with devices in three different ways. It uses your standard IR (Infrared), WiFi, and Bluetooth technology. One way or another, it’s going to get the signal across.

Last, but not least – the price. It was pretty affordable compared to comparable remotes.

There were many other remotes that I considered, but it wasn’t clear in their description for me that they would work with Firestick and my Fios box. So, if I couldn’t find this in the description or the reviews I passed on it.

SofaBaton F2 – Universal Remote Attachment

SofaBaton F2 Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player(2021 Updated, Alexa Voice Remote NOT Included)

This is actually a device that clips onto your existing Firestick remote to expand its functionality.

The SofaBaton F2 (found here on Amazon) gives you 11 extra buttons and does allow you to control your cable box, DVD player, TV and even your soundbar.

One of the reasons I considered this option is how easy and seamless it is to program. It features IR learning technology, which basically programs itself.

I will say that I worry that the design of this remote may be cheap and flawed though. I don’t have a good reason to think that other than examining the pictures.

    Sideclick Univeral Remote For Firestick

Sideclick Remotes SC2-FT16K Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player

The Sideclick is another clip-on unit for the Firestick remote. It clips to the left side of the remote and adds 8 extra buttons.

The Sideclick also uses an IR learning technology where it can code itself using the existing remote you’re trying to replace.

The clip portion that connects to your Firestick remote is also interchangeable in case you decide to change your streaming device at some point. The Sideclick universal remote is available for Roku, Apple TV, Xiaomi MiBox, Nividia Shield, Google Nexus and Fire TV/Amazon Firestick.

This universal remote alternative is pretty popular with users and they maintain a 4.5-star review rating on Amazon. If I had to choose between the Sideclick and the SofaBaton, I would most likely grab the Sideclick.

Using an Inteset IReTV Remote, Reciever and Y Cable

Inteset INT422-3 Universal Remote with IReTV and Custom OTG Y Cable for F-TV

(This Inteset Remote Kit Comes With Everything You Need)

This option will allow your Firestick to receive the traditional infrared signal that most other devices use. The setup requires three components.

    1. Inteset IReTV Reciever
    2. Y Cable (USB)
    3. Inteset Universal Remote
Inteset INT422-3 Universal Remote with IReTV and Custom OTG Y Cable for F-TV

The Y Cable is inserted in your Firestick as shown in the image on the left. This is where you would usually plug in your power adapter.

This gives you 2 new USB connectors. One so you can still plug the power cord in. The other allows you to insert your IReTV Reciever.

The Reciever is going to allow the Inteset Universal Remote (pictured above) to communicate with the Firestick.

Important to note: This concept is also compatible with the Logitech Harmony remotes. To the best of my knowledge, the Inteset IReTV Receiver only supports the Inteset remote and the Logitech Harmony Smart Control.

CetusPlay (Universal Remote App – Works With Firestick)

Here is a quick and free option you can check out. The CetusPlay app is supposed to work a multitude of devices including your TV, Cable Box, and Firestick. I included a list of compatible devices below from their site (since it’s readily available):

The Universal Remote I Chose That Works Perfectly With Firestick.

The Logitech Harmony Smart Control is the remote I chose and it works great with Firestick.

So, this is what I received when I purchased the Logitech Harmony Smart Control. After a pretty significant amount of reading and watching YouTube videos, my conclusion is that this is the best universal remote at a reasonable price that works with Firestick.

It comes with the remote, remote battery, the harmony remote “hub” which it uses to communicate with your WiFi (and I believe Bluetooth) devices, USB cable (USB to Micro-USB), IR mini blaster (receiver), AC wall adapter and the owner’s manual.

Setup was pretty easy. You have to start by installing the Harmony app and it will walk you through most of the steps. I was up and running with my TV, Fios, DVD player and Firestick in about 15 minutes from start to finish.

It’s pretty convenient because I can assign certain buttons to a group of commands. For instance with one click I can turn on the TV, switch the input to HDMI 2 (where my cable box is plugged in) and turn on the cable box.

I hope this article was helpful for you. You can also check out my list of Alexa Netflix Commands. Feel free to leave your comments below if you have any questions or recommendations on what universal remotes work with Firestick.

The Amazon Fire Stick proved to be the innovation of a decade as it has the capabilities to make non-smart TVs display online content. However, in this age of “smart TVs,” many households cannot distinguish between the functions of a smart Tv and a dedicated streaming device. Both devices may serve a similar function (displaying online, stream-able content), but the range of a dedicated streaming device is much higher than a smart TV. Samsung is even more restricted in this case because its TVs do not have a lot of apps. The TV does not boast common apps such as YouTube. Agitated users are forced to either download third-party apps or buy a dedicated streaming device. Therefore, this guide will explain how you can pair an Amazon Fire Stick with your Samsung Smart TV to access all the best content on your smart TV. Does Fire Stick Work With Samsung Smart TV?

The Fire Stick has been designed to work with many TVs produced in the world right now, including Samsung TVs. The main requirements to run a Fire Stick on your TV is to have an HDMI port and a USB port. Even if your TV does not have a USB port, you can use the adapter from the Fire Stick box and connect it to an electrical port in your house. The USB port powers up the device; therefore, you can either use the TV’s USB port or an electrical plug.

Having the HDMI port is necessary since this connection will establish the transfer of data between the two devices. Most Samsung Smart TVs from the past decade have a built-in HDMI port, so you do not need to worry about the Fire Stick not working with your Samsung smart TV. If your TV does not have an HDMI port or has a defective HDMI port (very rare cases), then you must buy a VGA/AV to HDMI port converter to make the Fire Stick work with your smart TV.

How to Connect Your Amazon Fire Stick to a Samsung TV?

The process of connecting a Samsung Smart TV to a Fire Stick is very similar to connecting it with any other TV. Go through the steps detailed below to understand this simple yet lengthy process.

    1. Unbox your Fire Stick and recognize the components so that you can follow the rest of the steps easily. There will be a remote, some batteries for the remote, a USB cable (depending on the model), an HDMI extender, and the Fire Stick itself.
    2. Plug the Fire Stick into the adapter via a USB cable and then plug in the adapter to an electrical outlet near your TV. Additionally, some people also opt to connect the USB cable to the TV rather than the adapter. This would also power up the Fire Stick adequately.
    3. Plug in the Fire Stick directly into the HDMI port of your Samsung smart TV to establish the required data transfer. If your TV supports the HDMI 1.4 feature, then you may even get a 4K resolution on your TV. Most recent sets have this feature!
    4. From your Samsung remote, choose the “sources” option and click the correct “HDMI” option to access the Fire Stick.
    5. The screen would then change, and the HDMI input would start to load on your screen. The loading screen has the Fire Stick logo on it. Please wait for a couple of moments for it to initialize.
    6. You would need to pair your Amazon remote with the Fire Stick to carry on with the next steps. To do this, you need to press the home button on the remote after placing the batteries in it. Keep it pressed for a couple of moments until the pair is complete.
    7. Connect your device to your Wi-Fi by following the on-screen instructions.
    8. Register or login with your Amazon account to complete the setup. You do not need an Amazon Prime Account to access the device; just a normal Amazon account will do.

After completing the setup, you can access all the Amazon apps. You do not need to do the setup every time you start up the device; however, pairing it with a new TV would require a setup. In that case, follow the steps from step one again.

How to Make Your Samsung Smart TV Remote Work on a Firestick?

It is relatively easy to convert your Samsung remote into a control for the Fire Stick. Follow these simple steps to use your Samsung remote for your Fire Stick:

    1. On your Fire Stick homepage, use your Samsung remote to open the “tools” section. Press the “tools” button on your Samsung remote.
    2. Click the “Anynet+” option on this “tools” menu and enable it for the Fire Stick.
    3. Now your Samsung remote will pair itself with the device and work seamlessly.
    4. If it does not, then restart all devices and carry out this procedure again.

How to Connect Your Amazon Fire Stick to a Samsung TV Without a Remote?

If you cannot get your hands on the Amazon Fire Stick remote, then there are other ways to operate it. You can either use your TV’s remote following the steps listed above. You can also use an app to control the Firestick as well! Follow the steps below to find out how to do this.

    1. Download the Fire Stick app on your Android or IOS device and connect it to the same Wi-Fi that the Fire Stick is connected to.
    2. Go to the “available devices” in the app and choose the Fire Stick that it shows.
    3. Enter the code that shows on the TV into the app to finish pairing successfully.
    4. You can now operate the Fire Stick via your phone.

Why is my Firestick Not Working on my Samsung TV?

In some cases, pairing the two devices is complicated, however, go through the checklist below for some common issues and learn how to fix them.

    1. Often, outdated firmware is the issue. Download the latest firmware of your Samsung model from the Samsung website onto a USB flash drive. Plug it into your TV and download the firmware onto it. The updated settings are likely to run the Fire Stick now.
    2. The “Anynet+” option is not enabled in some devices, causing the two devices to lag. Enable it by following the steps detailed above.
    3. If your devices have a connection issue, go to the network settings to “forget” the Wi-Fi devices. Re-enter Wi-Fi credentials in both devices to rectify the network issue.
    4. Restart the two devices (disconnect and reconnect the Fire Stick) if there is a general sound/video disruption.

    Conclusion

The Fire Stick is soon to become a device found in every household; therefore, it is essential to understand how to make it work with your device properly. The many different intricacies of the Samsung devices may sometimes cause issues when pairing it with the Amazon Fire Stick. However, most of the troubleshooting processes have been discussed in the guide allowing you to enjoy your devices peacefully. Check out some of the Best Fire Stick Bundleson Amazon now!

You can also first national bank severna park your lights, thermostat ceiling fan, etc.

There are a few other remotes that can get the job done though if you’re looking for something a little cheaper with less capability.

What universal remotes work with firestick:

    1. The Logitech Harmony Smart Control – Fully functional Universal Remote
    2. The SofaBaton F2 – Univeral Remote Attachment
    3. The Sideclick – Univeral Remote Attachment
    4. The Inteset Remote with IReTV Reciever and Y Cable
    5. The Cetus Play – Univeral Remote App

Now, let’s dive down into each one of these and see which one is right for you. I’ll also tell you which option I think is amazon fire stick remote instructions for a universal remote that works with Firestick.

There were many other remotes that I considered, but it wasn’t clear in their description for me that they would work with Firestick and amazon fire stick remote instructions Fios box.

I don’t santa fe taqueria san jose a good reason to think that other than examining the pictures.

All the Firestick Remote Shortcuts You Should Know About

The Fire TV Stick is smarter than your average twig and you can install apps, play games, or even mirror your computer screen on it. The Firestick remote is full of surprises too, for instance, there are a few hidden key combinations that let you unlock hidden features. Let’s check those out.

    1. Adjust the Display Resolution

Even though the Firestick detects the resolution automatically, you can change the resolution manually as well. Simply press and hold the UP Navigation + REWIND on the Firestick remote for ten seconds and the display will show the current resolution. Firestick will cycle between all the available resolutions and you can set a resolution of your choice by pressing the Select button on the remote.

    2. Reset your Firestick Remote

I use multiple Firesticks and one of the most annoying things about it is that you can’t use one remote with multiple devices. Instead of navigating through the system menu to unpair the remote and then pair it with another device, you can simply hard reset it by pressing and holding the BACK + MENU + LEFT Navigation buttonfor 15 seconds. This will reset the remote and you can then proceed to pair it with another Firestick.

    3. Reset your Firestick

If you ever want to reset your FireStick, you can initiate by pressing and holding the BACK + RIGHT Navigation key for ten seconds on your Firestick remote.

    4. Connect Remote to the Firestick

The Firestick would automatically detect a remote if it is nearby but if it doesn’t show up, you can always go the manual way. Press and hold the SELECT button for ten seconds and it should pop right up.

    5. Restart your Firestick

If your Firestick stops responding and you wish to restart it but are too lazy to get up then this trick will certainly come in handy. You can press and hold the SELECT + PLAY button for 10 seconds to initiate a forced restart.

    6. Open the System Menu

This is one of the most frequently used features that I discovered accidentally. Long pressing the HOME button on the remote opens the Quick Settings where you can access Mirroring option, Settings, or even put your Firestick to sleep. It’s really convenient.

    All the Firestick Remote Shortcuts

These were a few FireStick remote shortcuts that I frequently use. Navigating the UI is okay and I don’t complain but using these shortcuts saves a lot of time. Which is your favorite Firestick features? Let me know in the comments down below or reach out to me on Twitter.

Check out some of the Best Fire Stick Bundleson Amazon now!

Does Fire Stick Work With Samsung Smart TV?

The Fire Stick has been designed to work with many TVs produced in the world right now, including Samsung TVs. The main requirements to run a Fire Stick on your TV is to have an HDMI port and a USB port.
