Undergraduate Ceremony (bachelor’s degrees)
Friday, May 18, 2018 • 9:00 am • Prudential Center, Newark

May 11, 2018

Dear Seniors, Family and Friends:

Commencement, like the university experience it culminates, is a family and institutional event. At Commencement, we celebrate the accomplishments of the student, the reinforcement and support of the family, and the successful effort of every member of the University community.

William Paterson University’s 2018 Commencement ceremony will begin with a procession of candidates and faculty in full academic regalia at 9:00 a.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark on Friday, May 18, 2018 Pageantry and dignity are emphasized and you will see Board of Trustees members, faculty, and senior administrators in their colorful academic regalia march along with students, in special sections as well as onto the stage. The candidates for degrees will wear ceremonial hoods trimmed in orange, which along with their black robes proudly display the institution’s colors.

As part of the ceremony, students come forward, receive their diploma covers, and their names are read and displayed on screen for the community to bear witness to their accomplishment. These are special moments for each and every student that should be individually respected by all of the other students, their families, and friends. Shouting and other random outbursts on stage, including taking unannounced photographs, takes away from the respect that other candidates deserve and can be disruptive to the ceremony as a whole. Additionally, for their own safety, children of graduates are not permitted to process or sit on the arena floor, nor should they accompany any student to the stage. We expect that all students will come forward to be acknowledged, participate respectfully, and upon return to their seat remain until all the degrees have been conferred and the Alma Mater is sung.

We will graduate more than 2,000 students and anticipate a total assemblage of more than 14,000 people. Of course, every family wants to pay particular attention to its graduate. May we suggest that the only practical way to accomplish this is before and after the ceremony. Attempting to photograph your graduating family member during the procession or ceremony not only causes disruption and confusion, but usually ends in disappointment. A professional photographer will be present to photograph each candidate and these photos will be made available for you to purchase.

Again, our William Paterson University Commencement ceremony is important to our graduating students, as well as their family, friends, and our entire University community. We are looking forward to a special ceremony for all who attend!

Sincerely,

Francisco DíazPamela Fueshko

INVITATION We invite you to participate in this year’s Commencement Ceremony, our annual celebration where you along with family and friends gather among the faculty and staff to honor your achievement. The ceremony is being held on Friday, May 18, 2018 and our commencement speaker is Kristine Johnson, an anchor for WCBS-TV in New York. The commencement ceremony is a formal celebration steeped in academic ritual and traditions, complete with procession, academic regalia, and other elements of pageantry. Personal attention takes center stage as each graduate is individually recognized. Therefore, we ask that each student be afforded similar attention and that the community conduct themselves befitting the occasion. While the ceremony may last up to three hours, each student’s experience should be similar and we request that all students remain in your seats until the conclusion of the event. Early departures and other disruptive behavior can take away from what we hope will be a memorable event. Enclosed are varied instructions for you and your families to best prepare for the event. Please note that guests do not need tickets to attend the ceremony. Family members will not be able to interact with graduates in the ceremony-level staging and exit areas. Therefore, please arrange for a mutually agreed upon meeting location with your family members outside the Prudential Center at the end of the ceremony. We look forward to seeing you at the ceremony. Congratulations! Francisco Diaz and Pam Fueshko Commencement Coordinators

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WEARING THE ACADEMIC HOOD The academic hood is a visual representation of your level of academic achievement and the scholastic degree being conferred. This hood has been designed within the guidelines established by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume. The velveteen trim (2) represents the degree you have earned. The chevron (4) and the lining (3) represent the University colors. The black shell (1) is the traditional color determined by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume.

The following instructions are designed to assist you in the proper way to wear the hood:

1. Put the hood on over the robe. The hood should be placed over your head so that it drapes off your shoulders and over the back of your gown. The border trim should be placed on the outside of the hood with the trim side facing up under the chin (as below). Pin the hood to the gown to prevent it from riding against the neck.

2. Roll the edge of the hood outward so that the inside colors of the hood show. The end of the hood will look something like a fin and should not be turned inside out but hang parallel to the ground. 3. Be sure the hood lining (the colors of the University are showing. This can be done by turning the trim to the outside at the back just below your shoulders. 4. There is a cord on the back of your hood that will keep it in place. Connect the cord across the front of the hood. Make sure the hood is smoothed down and lays flat against the back of your robe.

Where's best place to park at Prudential Center?

Going to my first Devil's game in Newark, and wondering where the best place to park is? Are there garage's or do you park on the street? Any help would be appreciated.

There are various parking lots all over the area. Some are right across the street, some are a few blocks away, and many in between. You shouldn't have any trouble at all.

Season ticket holder here. There is a lot behind the arena inbetween Green and Lafayette. Right across from the Devils Parking Garage. We park there. Its right across from UberBurger, and the Arena. You cant go wrong there. Parking is 25 if you don't have a parking pass. There are lots further that are cheaper, but we park there due to convience of getting in and out of Rt 78.

Just get off 78, onto McCarter Highway, then take the ramp to Broad Street. Take Broad Street about 8-9 blocks, turn onto Green Street and the lot is on your left.

Let me know if you have any other questions

CMON thats where we park also. Also right across the street from the Arena is the Edison Ale House, a must to eat in!

Here are some more details.

We haven't gotten to the Edison Ale house yet, have heard good www clickandpark com prudential center Usually we go to the Goal Bar (right by our seats in section 1). It is a hidden gem, you can watch warmups, and the food is a little more upscale. Got Eastern Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich and fries (Not the nathans ones) for 9 dollars. sandwich is on a brioche bun. probably the best value in the whole arena.

Anywhere along Mulberry st. Mulberry and Edison is the closest but of course most expensive. As you head south down Mulberry it gets cheaper. It's mostly outside lot parking.

I took the train in from Dover. Dover is easy parking. Jumped on the train. Got off the train and there is a shuttle bus that takes you over to the front doors. Watched the game (if you are bringing kinds make sure you bring soda caps, they sell bottles but wont let you keep the caps). Jumped on the shuttle bus to the train station.

I never did the train before but was super easy and would suggest it to everyone. I am sure you could take the train from Netcong or Hackettstown too, just need to check the schedule

All sounds good. Appreciate the feedback. May try the train.

Taking the train takes significantly longer. Fidelity cash management account bank, you can get there from Hackettstown in an hour. Www clickandpark com prudential center up to you and your comfort level.

The train takes alot longer. We do the pre-paid parking in sections 3, 4 or 10 if possible. DO NOT leave your car on the street. Newark PD unfortunately has let over 150 officers go in the last year, and as ok as the area around the arena seems, it is still not a really safe place.

Was just there this week. I parked in the lot on Mulberry, right across the street from the Prudential Center. Very Convenient. I paid $20 and well service credit union branches near me it since it was pouring.

You CANNOT take a direct train from Dover to the Rock. You have to go from Dover to Secaucus and transfer to one going to Newark Penn. if you're planning to do that, park at Secaucus.

I did prepaid parking on the one time that we went there. Ended up with the lot that was attached to the arena.

could not have been easier.

The Dover line does go to Newark, but it's Broad st not Penn st. From Broad st. station it's about a 10-15 minute walk. But like someone said they have a shuttle bus which i don't know anything about. I wouldn't walk it at night though.

Dover line does not go to Newark Penn, which provides a mostly indoors walking route to the Rock. Newark Broad St is not a place I'd want to walk to the Rock from.

Broad Street is a mile away. Penn is not.

From Newark Broad you could take the Light Rail to Newark Penn.

That's a good point Tracy i forgot about the light rail. That's real easy to take from Broad st station. It's right outside. I have walked from Broad st station to Penn stat a few times during the day and it's really not bad. But like i said i really wouldn't do it at night.

I'm not sure if this is offered in Newark, but I have friends who go into NYC for plays regularly. They go online and get printable www clickandpark com prudential center for parking. They park in a lots that normally charge $35, and with the coupon they pay $10. Try doing a search for parking in Newark.

You can buy parking passes right from Ticketmaster that put you in a parking garage that's attached to the arena. Unless you're picking up your tickets from the will call window. Then you need to walk around to the other sida of the arena from the outside to get them.

It's called clickandpark. The parking it about $30. Very convenient.

30 bucks to park best apy savings account 2015 ya wonder why we dont go to games anymore

you can park for 10 or 15 on small lots. there is also one very close to the arena, next to a bar on Edison PL but it cost 20 or 25., I think that's the best because you can come out quick.

if you have a Lexus I www clickandpark com prudential center you park for free in their garage.

Yeah, 30 bucks is steep. I don't go there too often but I went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra today which is why I know about the parking.

For me, if parking was free close-by I obviously would use it. But if I have to pay 15 or 20 and then have to walk 3-4 blocks through Newark, I would rather pay 30 to park right in the building.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WEARING THE ACADEMIC Www clickandpark com prudential center The academic hood is a visual representation of your level of academic achievement and the scholastic degree being conferred.
