Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Due to so-called "human" errors on behalf of Paychex Inc., I suffered significant financial losses. For unexplained reasons, my 401k check was not processed expeditiously, sent to the wrong address twice and my privacy was violated as a result by the sharing of my financial information without my consent to uninvolved parties. During the excessive delay in receiving my personal funds, over $8000 was lost by being outside of the stock market rather than invested as intended.

I am demanding restitution for my financial losses and invasion of privacy. I would rather not pursue litigation over this matter BUT WILL DO SO if the following actions are not taken:

1) Paychex shall issue a check of $8000 to me to offset the financial impact of losing my 401k funds totaling over $170,000 for over 30 days

2) Verify corrective actions and/or employee discipline and retraining are performed immediately to avoid this happening again in the future. They do not appear to care whatsoever about my damages.

If I do not have an adequate response received from Paychex by 11-30-2021, I will pursue legal action in this matter.

Regards,

    FAQs

    What Are PEO Services?

A Professional Employer Organization (PEO) uses a co-employment approach, maintaining the books and handling specific services while under your management.

Many businesses choose to outsource these critical services in order to guarantee that they are done correctly by experienced professionals. With a PEO, businesses are able to save on the cost of extra employees, while providing teams with more expert training and freeing up more time in your day to grow and expand your company.

A PEO typically provides any of these basic services:

    • Payroll processing
    • Human resources administration
    • Employee benefits
    • Risk and compliance
    • Workers' compensation
    • Employee training
    • Talent development

However, not all PEOs offer or specialize in the services your business may require, so it’s critical to adequately vet each company’s options.

What’s the Difference Between a PEO and an HRO?

A PEO and HRO are commonly used together, but they are, in fact, completely different entities. Human Resource Outsources (HRO) are similar to PEOs, but they are limited to only HR services.

In contrast, a PEO handles that and far more, offering a comprehensive and flexible set up for your company that aims to resolve all of your administrative, regulatory, and HR needs. This also means that a PEO is given significantly more autonomy over the business, having the authority to handle payments, training, hiring, and benefits, while an HRO’s power extends only as far as the HR-related aspects of the job.

What Are the Disadvantages of a PEO

While helpful to many, a PEO isn’t for everyone.

Many companies require a minimum of five employees before you can even get started, instantly ruling out newer startups that may not have had the opportunity to expand its workforce.

A PEO can also mean less interaction between you and your staff, with an outside party suddenly becoming more entangled with your company affairs and, by extension, your employees.

With so much access to your team and proprietary affairs, it’s important to find a PEO that is highly rated by industry experts, such as the Employer Services Assurance Corporation (ESAC) and IRS.

What Does paychex employee customer service PEO Cost?

Few PEOs are upfront about their pricing, instead requiring www capitalone com creditlinefaq you call a customer service representative for a quote. However, most PEOs stick to a basic pricing model that uses a set fee that is charged on a per-employee basis. Some PEOs may offer instead to use a percentage-based payment system that is directly correlated to your growth.

The cost of a PEO depends on how many employees you have, their total hours, how much they make, and future plans for company growth. Be sure to ask upfront about any special policy customizations or discount offers that can help lower the total cost. Also, consider whether a contract is required and whether there are any add-on fees. You will also want to consider how long you will have to commit to a PEO’s services, because if you’re a smaller company struggling to maintain steady business, a long contract may be more than you can commit to at this time.

How We Chose the Best PEO Services

There is a multitude PEOs operating today, but very few are worth their weight. To begin, we look to the industry leaders for their expert ratings and results. The National Association of Professional Employer Organizations has been an invaluable resource in researching and uncovering the best secrets regarding today’s top PEO services.

The Employer Services Assurance Corporation (ESAC), and the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) recognize PEOs of superior caliber with official ratings and accreditations that serve as a sign of reliability paychex employee customer service customer satisfaction.

What We Recommend Paychex Flex For

After testing and reviewing hundreds of HR, payroll, and accounting SaaS solutions over the years, I can easily report that Paychex has done one thing right: It is simple to use, as the interface is not crowded with extra features. It only takes only a few minutes to set up if you start using the small business basic product, Paychex Go. It will take two days if moving data service credit union branches near me another provider. It took me about five minutes to set up a new business account.

In short, Paychex Flex is best for:

    • Startups planning to grow significantly: Paychex Flex offers on-boarding and new hire HR support, helps train your new employees to use the system, and provides new hire reporting options. If you’re using its basic Paychex Go product, you can add employees for only $4 each per month. It also has three higher tier plans you can transition to when if you grow and need more personalized service in addition to HR support.
    • Retailers and restaurants paying hourly workers: The payroll system tracks time worked and attendance. It can also support numerous payment options. It monitors breaks, shift swapping, and overtime alerts and supports time card approvals if needed.
    • Manufacturing companies prone to workplace injuries and layoffs: Managing workers’ compensation can be a nightmare for many small business owners, especially construction and manufacturing companies. Paychex Flex offers a variety of insurance plans, and it includes an integrated Workers’ Compensation Payment Service. It also offers a state unemployment insurance (SUI) add-on that includes constant monitoring of SUI regulations.

When Paychex Flex Would Not Be a Good Fit

    • Businesses with only 1099 contract workers: Although many industry experts say independent contractor growth is outpacing employee hiring, Paychex Flex does not yet offer a more affordable contract-only package. If you’re primarily paying contractors, check out our top picks for contractor payroll services.
    • Small businesses not planning on growth in the immediate future: The entry-level product doesn’t include features such as the mobile app, business software integrations, unemployment services, customized reporting, and on-boarding tools; when you’re just starting out, your goal is usually to get the most bang for your buck. If you have a small operation, check out our guide on payroll software for small businesses to find a better fit.

Paychex Flex: Is it the Right Payroll Software for Your Business?

PaychexPaychex Flex helps small to enterprise-sized businesses manage their payroll online via its mobile app. It is an ideal payroll solution for businesses in a rapid growth phase, as it is easily scalable and includes onboarding support and new hire reporting.

    Visit Paychex Flex

What We Recommend Paychex Flex For

After testing and reviewing hundreds of HR, payroll, and accounting SaaS solutions over the years, I can easily report that Paychex has done one thing right: It is simple to use, as the interface is not crowded with extra features. It only takes only a few minutes to set up if you start using the small business basic product, Paychex Go. It will take two days if moving data from another provider.

    • Businesses with employees in multiple states: Paychex Flex supports payroll and tax processing plus compliance in multiple locations. It also offers health insurance and other benefits in all 50 states.

    Paychex Flex Pricing & Features

Setting up this payroll service is simple. I was able to set up a basic Paychex Flex Go account in less than five minutes. If you have many employees to add with different payment types, it will take longer, of course. Paychex Flex can help you set up your account or migrate data if needed. The software runs checks, too, so you don’t miss anything when setting up payroll processing.

You can sign up for a Paychex Flex Go account easily online on your own. If you need a Select, Pro, or Enterprise account, you’ll need to contact a customer service representative to help you build your customized plan.

    Payroll Processing

Online payroll processing is the main feature of Paychex Flex. It can process various types of payroll processes, including managing hourly, salary, and contract hours. It can also support direct-deposit payments, as well as payment cards and checks.

Screenshot of Paychex Company Info Schedule

It is easy to select a payroll schedule using Paychex Flex. You can choose weekly, biweekly (every two weeks), and monthly or create a customized pay period.

    Payroll Taxes

Paychex Flex can manage employee federal, state, and local payroll taxes for every state. To help you file accurate taxes, it employs hundreds of people dedicated to monitoring tax law changes. They calculate, pay, and file your payroll taxes for you. Paychex Flex will also help you find tax credits that your business may qualify for.

    Screenshot of Employees Employment Info

Paychex Flex supports full-time, part-time, and 1099 contract workers.

    Time Tracking

To create accurate payments, the software tracks time, including breaks and overtime. You can set it up to require payment approvals if necessary. You can use it with Paychex Flex Time or a third-party time tracking solution, including those that support hand, iris, and face scanning.

Screenshot of Employees Using Paychex Flex Mobile App Tracker

Employees can track their time worked using the Paychex Flex mobile app.

    Business Software Integration

Payroll software is nearly useless if it does not integrate with your other business solutions. Paychex Flex works with accounting, HR, time clock, banking, insurance, and retirement systems. It says it works with POS software, too, but we found that it is only compatible with Clover. However, with regard to retirement and health services, it works with many, including popular services such as Aetna, AIG, Ameritas, Cigna, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, and Vanguard.

It is also compatible with  popular accounting software, HR, point-of-sale (POS), and productivity solutions,

    • QuickBooks
    • Sage
    • Xero
    • Indeed
    • Bamboo HR
    • Clover
    • SAP

And of course, it offers integrations for working with most major banks, such as Chase, Capital Bank, Bank of America, and US Bank.

Screenshot of Employees Payroll Deduction Types

You can set up a variety of payroll deduction types. The Pro and Enterprise version supports more options than the Flex Select and Flex Go versions.

    Payroll Support

Paychex Flex Select, Pro, and Enterprise versions provide a dedicated payroll support specialist. This means you can contact a specialist who knows about your business and answer their phone and email queries in a timely manner. This support person is U.S.-based, or if you’d rather visit an office, Paychex Flex supports over 100 office locations across the U.S.

    Employee Training

While the software is simple to use, Paychex Flex offers employee training support to larger companies, including online courses, an AI-powered learning management system, and printable training posters. New-hire onboarding tools include direct deposit and tax forms that can be processed using paper or paperless using the mobile app.

Paychex Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Services

If you want to outsource your business’ key HR functions, then you may want to consider Paychex’s PEO services. Ideal for growing companies with at least five employees and limited HR support, it comes with a comprehensive range of HR services—most notably its large group benefit rates and HR experts help you stay compliant with laws and regulations

    Paychex PEO HR Experts

These professionals can deliver personalized recommendations and advice, depending on your business’ objectives, risk tolerance, and needs. They can also assist in updating your company policies, including creating and managing a company culture strategy to boost employee engagement. If you’re regulated by OSHA (such as companies that do manufacturing or deal with chemicals), you’ll find having a dedicated safety representative handy. This service will help you handle OSHA regulations and manage your workers’ compensation insurance.

    Paychex PEO Benefits & Insurance

With Paychex PEO, you get access to employee benefits programs like health insurance, dental, vision, 401(k) plans, and health benefits accounts (such as FSA, dependent care FSA, HSA, HRA). Paychex will also assist you in managing these benefits through Paychex Flex, so deductions and premium contributions flow smoothly. Employment practices liability insurance (EPLI), cyber liability insurance, and state unemployment insurance (SUI) administration are also available.

    Paychex PEO Pricing

Pricing varies depending on your location and number of employees. Paychex PEO charges a flat rate per employee vs a percentage of payroll, which can be more affordable if you have high-salaried employees on staff.

    Paychex Flex Ease of Use

    • Telephone support is available 24/7

    OnPay vs Paychex Flex

Every small business has different needs, so make sure you know exactly what you’ll be getting. Most notably, take a closer look to understand everything Paychex Flex and OnPay do to simplify paying and managing your team. And if you need to go above and beyond payroll, make sure you understand how much HR, benefits, and integrations with accounting software will all cost so there are no surprises later.

Full-service payroll: Not only do you want a platform to be able to pay your team quickly and easily, but you also want to be sure that your payroll provider will get your local, state, and federal taxes filed and paid accurately, so you can rest knowing things are done right. If you have employees in multiple states or locations, consider whether your provider will charge an additional fee.

With OnPay’s accuracy guarantee, you can be sure your taxes are being filed and paid correctly, no matter how many states your workers are located in — at no additional cost. Note that Paychex Flex charges extra fees for multi-state payroll.

Integrations: Great payroll providers will also have integrations with time-tracking and accounting software. In a perfect world, you want your time and attendance system to talk to your payroll system and in turn, have those expenses flow right to your accounting platform.

OnPay integrates with top accounting and time-tracking systems at no extra cost. Our flexible integrations with QuickBooks and Xero give you the ability to customize data and view your finances in the way that makes the most sense for your business.

Specialized payroll requirements: Businesses in different industries (and of different sizes) sometimes have different payroll tax and withholding requirements. From filing Form 943 filing for ag businesses to accurately processing special pay types like bonuses, tips, or commissions, take a close look to ensure all your needs will be met.

OnPay serves businesses from all industries including farms and ranches, construction, restaurants, doctors, nonprofits, start-ups, and more. So, we can handle any specialized payroll requirements for your business, at no additional cost.

HR and compliance: The best payroll providers will not only help you with payroll, but also with HR and compliance through features like employee self-service, PTO tracking and approval, e-signable documents and storage, organization charts, and more. And, they should also offer integrated benefits and workers’ comp plans (without extra fees for the features and integrations you’ll need).

OnPay offers a full suite of HR tools to help you take care of your team — at no extra cost. And with integrated pay-as-you-go workers’ comp and benefits plans in all 50 states, we’ll make sure you’re staying compliant while keeping your employees happy.

Account setup and customer support: When getting set up with a payroll provider, it can feel like a long and complex process to get all your data migrated. That’s why your payroll provider should offer to migrate all your prior wage and employee data for free, including help getting all your integrations set up. This level of service makes for a much more seamless transition. You also want to know that your payroll provider will be there to help beyond just setup, in case you have questions or need help with anything in the future.

OnPay will set up your account and migrate all your prior wage and employee data for free, so setup is simple. Note that Paychex Flex charges an additional setup fee. And, with OnPay, you can get help from a payroll expert whenever you need it. Email support begins at 7 AM EST on weekdays, while phone and chat are available from 9 AM to 8 PM EST.

At first glance, both Paychex Flex and OnPay have similar features and functionality, but OnPay consistently receives better ratings and reviews from clients and industry experts alike. See why for yourself:

Simplified employee self-service onboarding, new Labor Cost Hub, continued PPP and retirement support highlight latest updates in Paychex Flex®

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Paychex, Inc., the HR software and services company that provides the power of simplicity for increasingly complex workplaces, announced new functionality to Paychex Flex®, the all-in-one solution for HR, payroll, and benefits. The Spring '21 release helps businesses with the need to increase the speed of hiring and onboarding new employees, as well as giving them the ability to better understand, measure, and manage labor costs. In addition, Paychex continues to enhance its solutions to support businesses as they navigate federal stimulus programs and work to meet state-mandated retirement planning.

The new Paychex Flex Labor Cost Hub (pictured here) gives customers and CPAs a holistic, real-time view of total payroll labor job costing and labor distribution in one place

"With more Americans getting vaccinated, many state restrictions relaxing, and businesses reopening, the competition for talent is fierce," said Tom Hammond, Paychex vice president of corporate strategy and product management. "As we look ahead to the new normal, cash flow and talent management will continue to present unique challenges for employers, especially as millions of employees have renewed expectations for how, when, and where they work. Organizations' ability to successfully navigate these new norms, as well as maximize the government stimulus available to them, will be critical during the post-pandemic recovery."

    The Spring '21 release includes:

    • Onboarding Self-Service: In an increasingly competitive hiring market, enhancements to the onboarding self-service experience will help accelerate speed-to-hire and lessen the administrative burden on business leaders. The latest upgrades simplify the user experience for entering and reviewing new-hire information, including the ability for administrators to invite new hires to register for Paychex Flex, electronically complete direct deposit and Form W-4, as well as digitally make bank and tax selections within the application. All actions are powered by an integrated e-signature solution that is designed with security and efficiency at the forefront and enables users to initiate processes on any device at their convenience.

    • Labor Cost Hub: In addition to the current challenge of hiring and onboarding talent quickly, managing cash flow and labor expenses continues to be top of mind as the economy ramps up. The new Paychex Flex Labor Cost Hub gives customers and CPAs a holistic, real-time view of total payroll labor job costing and labor distribution in one place, enabling them to see how much they are spending on their largest operational expense – their workforce. For example, administrators can see the long-term cost of salary adjustments or compare overtime versus adding a new headcount. The Labor Cost Hub is the latest example in the Paychex's larger strategy to provide businesses the data insights they need to drive profitability.

    • Ongoing Stimulus Support: From the time the CARES Act passed in March 2020 through businesses currently seeking forgiveness for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, Paychex has continued to update its PPP solutions in near real-time. These ongoing upgrades include the ability for employers to easily navigate the complexities of the PPP and Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) concurrently, a differentiator for the Paychex Flex solution. Quickly developing and deploying these updates in Paychex Flex has helped Paychex customers secure $65 billion in PPP loans and $2.1 billion in ERTC and Paid Family Leave (PFL) credits combined.

    • State-Mandated Retirement Solutions:California joins Illinois and Oregon as the latest state to require employers to offer a retirement savings platform for employees or face financial penalties. Paychex, the No. 1 401(k) recordkeeper in the nation by total number of plans, now offers a Pooled Employer Plan (PEP) in addition to its traditional 401(k). Potential tax credit savings from the SECURE Act for eligible employers helps to offset startup costs and offers a feature-rich alternative to state IRA plans.

"We continue to evolve our next generation of talent management products to help business leaders find, hire, and retain employees quickly and effectively with an eye on driving engagement and managing labor costs," Hammond added. "Our solutions today are more relevant than ever, and I couldn't be more confident in saying that Paychex is fully prepared to help businesses succeed and thrive in the future of work."

All updates in the Spring '21 release are available today for current Paychex Flex customers. Learn how Paychex Flex helps businesses achieve their business goals — during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
