Online trading academy refund -

Do not get fooled by the fraud Online Trading Academy. They are just after your money and do not have any interest in actually providing you quality information about anything. I and my friend have faced the consequences of the paid orientation service they provide that even guarantees you with a refund facility but after 3 days of wasting your time, there you get to know that you won’t receive the refund. What kind of policy is this? Fake academy just ripping off cash from innocent people!

If I had known they are going to do such a thing, I would never have paid for it at first place. This is just so bad, people can never rely on such academies that are running after the money of people. We were told at the time of payment for the orientation that we can ask for a refund if we were not satisfied. They never said that it was only applicable if we asked for a refund after the first day only. This is so not done, we had been cheated by this academy. The first day went well and we didn’t know that the second day would unfold the main details, we went excitedly to take part in the orientation’s second day let alone to realize that the course they were offering was of $ 55, 000 and we could never afford it, and it was quite obvious.

When we asked the organizers that we want the refund as we cannot buy the course and so we did not find the orientation useful, they directly said that it is not possible as it was only applicable for people who asked for a refund at the end of the first day. From the second day onwards, the refund policy becomes void. This is so bad. Now, I and my friend feel cheated for money. You all are providing misleading information to the users that is so bad on your part when you should be very clear from the beginning.
Not only this, we were promised that all of us would be given free flash drives and tablets. But to our surprise, we have received neither of the two. Everything was just a big web of lies that was set to rip off money from us. Whenever we called, we were either hanged up by their rude staff or told that you will receive them soon without any real sign of getting them. This is completely wrong and you cannot get away with this like that. This treatment with your potential clients can harm your business and bring you negative results.

You all are just running a business in which you are looting money from people by organizing such orientations to lure people and do fraud with them I wonder what might have happened with the students who opted for that course. It is just nuisance. You all are lying on our faces with your big lies. No one deserves such treatment. I will surely complain about you because you all are fraud people, deceiving people for their money is all you do and I won’t let you continue this with others.

I have already completed my online research on how you all are into this dirty game of fooling people with your fake orientations and cheat them with your strategies. You all have lost your moral ethics and the very humanity but you will not be spared. I have gone through all your company reviews and I know that all the positive ones are fake because we have seen with our own eyes how you all behave with your clients. You cannot get away with this. Your BBB reviews are a clear sign of your fraudulence and how you all are tricking people to take money from them without imparting the service they deserve.

If I had known that all this is for money, I would never have asked my friend to join it too. I will write a letter to the concerned authorities to take strict actions against you people who are just after other people’s money and don’t consider anything else above it. How cheap can you be! I will try every means possible to spread a word about your real face and expose it to the world. You cannot just make fool of people and take money from them to run away.

I have already told all my other friends and relatives about how you all are into this business of taking money from other people and making fake and misleading commitments to people and once you get the cash, you don’t care about providing your service and ignore the person completely. You just wait and watch, you will have to face severe consequences soon.

Big online learning provider faces calls for refunds after complaints

Online courses are booming as locked-down Britons and others around the world use this time to learn new skills or take up a hobby. However, Guardian Money can reveal that one of the sector’s biggest players appears to be generating large numbers of complaints from unhappy customers, with many demanding refunds and, as of this week, it is being investigated by the leading reviews website Trustpilot.

Shaw Academy may not be a household name but it is one of the biggest companies in online education and claims that 12 million people have “graduated” from its dozens of courses with an up to tenfold increase in students after the lockdown.

Courses range from digital marketing and web design to learning the guitar and wedding photography. They are typically free for four weeks, then £49.99 a month. But to sign up, users have to enter their payment details and some have complained that the company makes it very difficult to cancel the free trial – several claim that although they cancelled before the deadline, money was still taken out of their account.

We have also seen emails in which company representatives have asked customers to delete negative Trustpilot reviews or replace them with positive ones.

Although Shaw Academy highlights its “excellent” Trustpilot rating on the front page of its website, this week the review website put a prominent banner notice on the page, stating: “This company and its reviews are currently under investigation.”

Some customers also complain about being bombarded with emails, texts, WhatsApp messages and phone calls, some of which try to persuade them to buy more services.

However, Shaw Academy tells Money that “99.5% of customers have zero issues”, adding that its global ratings were “exceptionally high” and that while Covid-19 had been challenging, “we have worked tirelessly to make improvements”.

Founded in 2012 and with its headquarters in Dublin and bases in the US, India and South Africa, it specialises in online video classes aimed at helping people build their business, hobby or career.

When Daniel Smith, 40, from Hereford, spotted a Facebook advert for a free four-week online web development course, he could not believe his luck. Wanting to develop his skills, he clicked on Shaw Academy’s Facebook page and saw that it had nearly 1m likes, including from eight of his friends.

He signed up and when the final step of registration requested debit/credit card or PayPal details, Smith hesitated. But, feeling safe with PayPal’s customer security, he continued.

After choosing when he wanted to schedule his free lessons, a pop-up banner appeared on his phone asking whether he wanted a “toolkit” containing additional resources for the course for £39.95.

“My background is IT, so I am familiar with pop-ups,” Smith says. “But the peculiar thing about this one was it took up my entire screen and the ‘x’ to close it was tiny and right in the corner. So I very carefully made sure I used the edge of my finger to close it.”

Then another pop-up appeared, this time for an “e-certificate”. A moment or two later, he says, the toolkit pop-up appeared again. This time, when he was slightly hastier in closing it, a “PayPal payment £39.95 to Shaw Academy” notification appeared on the screen.

He emailed Shaw Academy explaining that he did not want a toolkit and did not click on the pop-up – he clicked on the “x”. Smith says: “What came out of these simple requests was a week of torture.” He disputed the payment with PayPal, prompting a “long back and forth”, but a few days later was told he had been refunded the £39.95.

A Shaw Academy Facebook group set up in January 2020 claims to have more than 3,500 members and features hundreds of negative comments.

Meanwhile, on Trustpilot, despite its alert about the investigation, vast numbers of reviews were still appearing this week, many very brief but with five stars. Money counted about 25 in the space of one hour (4pm to 5pm on Tuesday), of which nine were one star.

At the time of writing, there were about 3,800 one-star reviews out of 27,200, with many claiming money was taken out of their account even though they had cancelled.

Veronika Solnickova, 33, a retail manager living in Dublin, thought that ending her €179.95 (£162) yearly membership – she had signed up to a sports nutrition course – would be simple.

She says she selected an option to be notified one day before the subscription was to end but that did not happen and she was shocked to find she had been charged another €179.95 for another year.

She says she should have been notified before being charged – she checked all her email folders but says nothing was sent – and claims the company was in breach of contract, prompting her to file a complaint with PayPal.

A couple of days later, after she posted a negative review on Trustpilot, Shaw Academy emailed to say that a refund would arrive in a few days. Sent by a customer support representative – and seen by Money – it states: “I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t mind removing your review or giving us a good rating on trustpilot.com, just until I have the chance to rectify the problem for you.” Another similar request followed a few days later.

Solnickova did not change her review and did eventually get her money: “I assume Shaw Academy gave the go-ahead to PayPal to proceed with the refund.” She says: “I consider myself to be lucky. Many people all over the world are being taken advantage of during the pandemic. They make it impossible to cancel and keep charging people.”

Asked about the alert on the Shaw Academy page, Trustpilot tells Money: “We take the integrity of our platform extremely seriously. Should we become aware of any company breaching our guidelines and trying to mislead consumers, we will take action. Our investigation continues but we have already issued formal cease-and-desist proceedings and if we don’t receive a satisfactory response we will take further enforcement action.”

James Egan, the chief executive of Shaw Academy, says “the positives outnumber the negatives by many multiples”, adding: “We have tried to respond during this crisis as best we could and we appreciate that, at times, the influx of new students combined with the global lockdown has created suboptimal experiences for a very small percentage of users relative to the many millions we have educated. This peaked in March and April, which I note is when most of the customers you are quoting experienced these issues.”

Egan says: “Our refund policies are far more flexible than almost all B2C [business-to-consumer] subscription providers, ie, we refund even when users have not cancelled.”

The company says it had also been providing customers who cancel with an extra two months’ credit for free, “to help people in need during this crisis”.

Shaw Academy says the requests to change Trustpilot reviews were against company policy “and was not sanctioned”. It says: “We are working with the individuals involved to ensure this does not happen again. We would not want to undermine the trust that customers place in either us or Trustpilot.”

In response to Smith’s case, Shaw Academy says it has refunded him: “In terms of the toolkit purchase, Mr Smith had the option to close the ad, move to a different part of the page, close the web page altogether or just not make the purchase.”

In response to Solnickova’s case, it says that as she had not cancelled her subscription, technically she was not entitled to a refund but that it provided one “as it was the right thing to do given the circumstances”.

Setting the standards

The coronavirus crisis has turned online learning into an even bigger industry.

The UK’s CPD Standards Office, an accreditation service for training and learning, said in March that those looking for a course should choose one that has been externally verified. If they don’t, they may run the risk of signing up for something that does not teach them what was advertised, or contains outdated or incorrect material.

There are various organisations out there doing accreditation. The CPD Standards Office website has a directory of accredited providers.

Why create an account?

Hey guys,

So a while back I went to a free seminar put on by Online Trading Academy (http://www.otarealestate.com/) at their offices in Irvine, CA.  They said that for $100 you could purchase a 3-day weekend course.  I decided why not, and my partner and I attended.

The weekend was informative, I am just starting out in the multi-family game and a lot of the information discussed checked out.  But day 2 I started to see that the "course" wasn't really a course, but rather a pitch for furthering your education through them.

On day 2 they set you up with your "counselor."  During the breaks they would talk to you, see how everything is going ect.  Then on day three they dropped the price of the courses.  Here is my thing, I am all for investing in education and furthering myself.  For an 8 week class it was something like $20,000 - for one course!  I think they had a package that included two 8 week classes for $32,000.

Now, at this point I wasn't walking for the door.  It wasn't till I spoke with my counselor regarding payment that I was like "uh...there is something sketchy going on here."

On day three (Sunday) towards the end of the pitch I was in my counselor's office.  She said, "So, you are interested in the course I see."  I told her I was, but that I wanted to do more research on the school and just look into what people say online about it all.  She then told me that in order to secure the course for $32,000 I would have to sign up that moment, that no research period was allowed.

This is a Real Estate school who doesn't allow due diligence.  I mean, are you serious?!

And told her that.  I said, "Look, you are a broker and I am a developer, if any seller was to tell us that there is no inspection period or due diligence period we would run for the hills.  And you are telling me I can't get one with this school?"  She told me "Well, we have a money back guarantee, you can get a refund within 7 days."  I told her, "no, I want to be able to do my research prior to any deposit and retain the ability to purchase the course for the price stated today."  She told me she would talk to the guys upstairs and "see what she could do."  There was no way I was giving these people 32k of my money only to not see something in the fine print about the "refund policy."  I could totally see them pulling the whole, "Oh we require cancellation by mail, and since you couldn't get a hold of anyone and had to leave a voicemail, your cancellation didn't go through.  Sooooory."

During our next meeting she told me that, "Ok, they said you can take a week to make a decision and lock in this price."

And here is the weird thing.  I go online and didn't really see ANYTHING on this school.  Sure there was a Yelp page, but Yelp is a scam artist in their own right.  They've been caught multiple times allowing businesses to pay to remove unflattering ads, or what they call "unhelpful."  And of course, all the Yelp reviews were stellar.

There was no independent discussion of this school anywhere.  Which honestly really surprised me.  How does a school, that wreaks of con artists, that charges $30-50k for classes not have any accredited reviews, news reports, ect?  That right there sent me running.

But it gets better.

I called them about 6 months after my "3 day course" to see if I could pay another $100 and do the 3-day course again.  I just wanted to sit through that brilliant sales pitch again and appreciate it for all its glory.  Plus, I might have learned a thing or two.  So I call them up, and they tell me, "uh, it looks like you have already taken the 3 day course."  I respond, "Yea, I know, but it's been a while since I took it, and I kinda want a refresher."  The guy says, "Well, I can sign you up for our ($20k) courses."  I tell him no, and repeat that I'm just interested in the $100 3-day pitch.  He says, "um, let me transfer you to one of our counselors."  He transfers me to someone, I get a voice mail, I leave a message, and never hear from them again.

Anyone else have any experience with this company?

Online Trading Academy Review

Online Trading Academy was one of the market leaders in the trading education business. Things changed at the time when the Federal Trade Commission started investigations. This Online Trading Academy review provides a short overview of the things that happened in the past months.

🙋 FounderEyal Shahar
🚀 FeaturesTrader education
✅ Best ForOn-site education
💰 PricingUp to $45,000

About

Online Trading Academy wanted to make a difference by offering trading and investment education elements with on-location classes. Instead of teaching online, they focus on educating clients in-house since 1997.

Costs

Online Trading Academy charged as much as $45,000 and more per client. Some of the products are free half-day classes, the Core Strategy Course, XLT Core Strategy, Professional Futures Course and Forex Course and more.

FTC

The Federal Trade Commission sued Online Trading Academy for Running an Investment Training Scheme on February 12, 2020 (details), and there was an update on April 7, 2020. The most recent update was September 15, 2020, with the title “FTC Settlement Requires Online Trading Academy to Forgive Consumer Debt, and Principals to Turn Over Millions in Cash and Assets.” The founder of Online Trading Academy and some others will pay up to $8.3 million U.S. dollars in terms of a settlement with the FTC for a total of $10 million dollars to benefit injured consumers.

OTA Today

I did not find any details about the current owner of the Online Trading Academy. The website looks a bit different, but the address mentioned in the website’s footer is the same as months before. Time will tell how things will develop.

What is currently offered? The concepts look the same for now.

Introductory Class: The free on-location classes are still the starting point where investors learn to invest and trade step by step. The idea is to teach the way how financial markets work. The required skills for trading in volatile markets and risk management aspects are part of the free introductory class.

Market Timing Orientation: The Market Timing Orientation is a 3-day workshop about the Core Strategy. Students learn how to apply the Core Strategy in long-term investing and short-term investing. The so-called enrollment specialist provides further insights into the upcoming classes. One of my readers told me, that the Market Timing Orientation already has to be paid.

Core Strategy: The Online Trading Academy Core Strategy is a two-part course with a foundational trading course with on-demand trading education lessons and pre-essentials with a duration of 42 hours. It costs $7,700 to join the pre-requisite course, and the eXtended Learning Track (XLT) costs another $13,750.

Strategic Investor: Managing assets and growing wealth is part of this program, where minimizing risk are in its focus. Option strategies are part of this course, and the course itself contains two parts. A base course with a broad overview of bonds, equities, and key strategic investing concepts. Attendees learn to tailor a strategic asset allocation model that fits their objectives. First, there are two parts, which costs $2,000 and $3,500, and then the eXtended Learning Track (XLT) costs $13,750.

Stocks, Forex, Futures, Options: There are also specialized asset classes offered called the Stocks Program, Forex Program, Futures Program, Options Program. All of them cost $5,500 for the basic course plus $13,750 for the eXtended Learning Track (XLT).

Similarities: As you can see, all asset class courses follow the same route. The foundation course has different names but costs about $5,000, followed by the XLT course with a tuition of $13,750. Therefore a minimum of $20,000 is required to attend. To put things in the right perspective, you pay far less when attending to all courses mentioned in my 10 Best Trading Course article mentioned in the Online Trading Academy Review summary.

Mastermind Community: The OTA Mastermind Community exists for members to learn from each other. It costs $25,000 to join and increases the overall costs of about $45,000.

What changed? The price tag changed a bit, and from my understanding, the prices increased. One thing where I’m not sure right now is the payment frequency. I understood the old pricing the way that all costs were per year. Now it seems that the costs are one-time fees, but it’s hard to tell right now.

Online Trading Academy Review Summary

Online Trading Academy offers on-location education for traders and self-directed investors. Please understand that $5,000, $20,000 or even $50,000 is a word for trading education. You should do the math first and calculate the overall costs based on your education level target. Online education is the future, and it is hard to tell how OTA will make its way through the next years.

I wanted to ensure to make things as transparent as possible for you. The Online Trading Academy will be updated again once things become more transparent. As being said, the website looks a bit different for now, but the things being offered look similar.

When looking back to the previous summary, the pricing was probably one of the biggest Online Trading Academy complaints besides the Federal Trade Commission’s investigations.

Another point was the fact that OTA was a franchising concept, and it was nearly impossible to know in advance if the trading educator is a great one or not.

It looks like  representative brings some more details, and it does not help to deescalate the situation. But let me respond to that.

(1). OTA delivered classes and retakes which most of them (Forex) were based not on the Core Supply/Demand strategy. Which one does not work anyway.

(2)(3)(4) Yes, I failed to fulfill my payment obligation. I made a decision not to deal with OTA anymore when I realized that OTA sells something that does work they way how it should work.

I could Compare OTA  like a brand new TV which does work properly. When you buy it, it seems like everything works fine. But after a while of using it, you start to understand that TV is defective and a lot of options do not work. The problem that you could not notice defective things at the beginning, especially when it's your first TV. OTA is exactly the same. You realize that very late.

(5) When I realized that OTA took action to report everything to the Credit Bureau and Collection agency. I had to take action to comuncate OTA to resolve that. OTA offered to write off what I owe them only and do not return the amount that I paid to them. They also send me an agreement which stated that I will not go public.

I would sign that agreement. And would not go public if OTA would offer to return the original amount as well.

(6) Yes, contacting BBB and seeking help from them is the way to resolve the issue. I took a time a little bit over a month till January 2019 because was investigating what is really going on and collecting details and data. I got enough and keeping for myself for now.  I still would like to resolve everything quite with OTA. So I am ready to discuss that privately. I don't want to manipulate anyone. Just would like to resolve the issue and go my way and never deal with OTA again. But if we would not resolve that, then I will have to the public. I don't want to be OTA's pandora box, but if that's would be necessary then I might become the one.

When we asked the organizers that we want the refund as we cannot buy the course and so we online trading academy refund not find the orientation useful, they directly said that it is not possible as it was only applicable for people who asked for a refund at the end of the first day.
This treatment with online trading academy refund potential clients can harm your business and bring you negative results.

It looks like  representative brings some more details, and it does not help to deescalate the situation. But let me respond to nantahala bank and trust franklin nc.

(1). OTA delivered classes and retakes which most of them (Forex) were based not on the Core Supply/Demand strategy. Which one does not work anyway.

(2)(3)(4) Yes, I failed to fulfill my payment obligation. I made a decision not to deal with OTA anymore when I online trading academy refund that OTA sells something that does work they way how it should work.
